Finding Employment Agencies in New York is as Easy as 1, 2, Click!

There are two ways of finding employment agencies in New York. For the ardent job seeker, knowing where and availing the services of the nearest employment agency is far better than pounding the pavement and wasting money on traveling.

Employment agencies in New York have their listings in the local phone books. These are usually under “employment.” Some agencies are even listed according to:

• Duration of work, in which case you should look under such headings like “temp agencies” for temporary employment and “part-time agencies” for part-time employment
• Field of work, in which case you should look under such headings like “medical employment agencies” for health related employment, or “labor hiring” for light industrial employment
• Specialization of work, in which case you should look under such headings like “Nursing services agency” for various kinds of nursing employment

Employment agencies in New York also have listings in the World Wide Web. Literally, finding an employment agency nearest to you is just a click of a button – a mouse button that is. There is a difference between an Internet job bank and an employment agency listing. Job banks are a collection electronically stored résumés which is open to the Human Resource department of hiring companies.

A rule of thumb for all agencies including employment agencies in New York is that job applicants must apply in person. The basic requirements needed for most employment agencies are a comprehensive resume and about two hours which will be dedicated to your preliminary interview and your skills testing. If you are extremely lucky, not to mention highly qualified, a job may be assigned immediately after skills testing and evaluation. If not, your assigned “recruiter” will give you a call back within a week or so. This gives the agency enough time to do background check, etc. If you are availing the services of employment agencies in New York, you must first and foremost agree on the “rate” and mode of payment.

How do you choose one agency over all the employment agencies in New York? An employment agency is like any business establishment. A safeguard against illegal practices is that an employment agency must be licensed and permitted to operate in the state of New York. The state also declares the maximum fee that can be charged against a job applicant. The state prohibits agencies from misrepresenting jobs to the unwary applicants. The Labor Department also declares that no applicant may be assigned to jobs that offer less than the state’s applicable minimum wage.

Employment agencies in New York pay particular attention to background and educational checks. They are sanctioned by law not to place minors into any jobs or job classifications that is beyond the scope of Student Employment practices. There are provisions in the Labor Law and Education Law about employment of minors, and breaking those provisions are considered a federal offense.
